How to create a consistent social media presence

It all begins with an idea.

Consistency is one of those buzzwords that … the cornerstone of a good social media presence.

Be consistent in your visual identity

Be consistent in your messaging

Be consistent with your audience

Your messaging and visual identity should be consistent across all your accounts. By having a cohesive presence you ensure each platform is in line with your core messaging and having the greatest impact on your audience.

Developing an online ‘voice’ that reflects your persona (or that of your brand) makes it much easier to stay on message. You can make slight adjustments to fit the tone of the specific platform but your online persona shouldn’t waver.

Small changes you can make to improve cohesiveness across all accounts:

  • Use the same profile picture across your accounts. This will help your audience recognise you wherever they find you.

  • Create a short but punchy bio that you can use across multiple accounts. If needed, have a shorter alternative version (same messaging!) that you can use for accounts with a more limited wordcount.

  • Have the same CTAs across your accounts. Whatever your current goal is, you want your entire audience encouraged to act for maximum impact.

It all begins with an idea.

It all begins with an idea. Maybe you want to launch a business. Maybe you want to turn a hobby into something more. Or maybe you have a creative project to share with the world. Whatever it is, the way you tell your story online can make all the difference.

Don’t worry about sounding professional. Sound like you. There are over 1.5 billion websites out there, but your story is what’s going to separate this one from the rest. If you read the words back and don’t hear your own voice in your head, that’s a good sign you still have more work to do.

Be clear, be confident and don’t overthink it. The beauty of your story is that it’s going to continue to evolve and your site can evolve with it. Your goal should be to make it feel right for right now. Later will take care of itself. It always does.
